Consultations for Addictive and Semi-addictive Behaviors

Addictions affect the way we think, feel and behave. That is why we like them…in the short-run. The problems come over time, in the long-run and can start to make a mess of our lives.

Many good people overdrink, procrastinate, overeat, spend too much time watching episodes of a favorite series, or too much time video gaming or on a porn site. Moderating or stopping those behaviors takes time and sometimes help from other people.

You intend to have only two drinks, and then you have six. Why?

You intend to spend a half an hour on YouTube and you spend three. Why?

You intend to get home by 10pm but you don’t get home until 2:30 am. Why?

For many years, my job has been helping people understand why, but my focus has always been and still is on how, how to get over the problem or manage it better.

Because people have a lot of questions, I recently wrote a book to help people who are trying to figure how big a problem they have and what they can do about it: Am I Addicted? 64 Questions and Answers to Help You Change an Addictive or Semi-Addictive Behavior  https://amzn.to/3eu1RYY. It may be helpful.

Some people come for one consultation to help them understand a bit more about their problem or problems and to discuss their options. Many people decide to try once a week, modern therapy. A few opt for an intensive outpatient program, and I refer them to one or two. A few opt for “rehab,” an intensive inpatient program, and I give them some referrals, as well. Some come back regularly and others on an as-needed basis. What would work best for you?
